Sabrina Carpenter has shared an alternate version of the cover for her upcoming album, weeks after the first one caused some divisive discourse on social media.
If you missed all the chatter, the pop star was at the centre of much controversy earlier this month, when she debuted the cover of her forthcoming seventh album, Man’s Best Friend.

The image — which sees Carpenter on all fours in a black dress as an unseen man (well, maybe a man) pulls her hair — was criticised by some onlookers as misogynistic or feeding the male gaze.
For the record, it also fed the male gays (me), but probably for different reasons.
In the fallout, TikTokers shared their theories and internet sleuths resurfaced a photoshoot in which Carpenter appeared to be recreating the controversial book and movie, Lolita, but the singer herself remained mostly tight-lipped and avoided directly addressing the controversy.
Now, however, she has taken to social media to deliver a different version of the Man’s Best Friend cover, while poking fun at all the hullabaloo for extra measure.

“Here is a new alternate cover approved by God”, Carpenter wrote alongside a black and white photo in which she’s laying her head on a suited man’s shoulder.
Other men are seen orbiting Carpenter in the background of the cover, which was shot by the same photographer as the original, Bryce Anderson.
Another zoomed-out version of the cover also sees the fittingly Short n’ Sweet singer overlooked by tuxedoed bystanders, whose jaws could probably carve an entirely new album cover out of rock.

Fans were quick to note the photo’s similarity to an iconic 1957 image of fellow bombshell Marilyn Monroe also perched on a man’s shoulder, and while previous attempts to channel Monroe have been controversial (ahem, Kim), fans seemed mostly approving of Carpenter’s alternate cover.
“‘Approved by God’ haha I freaking love you”, one user wrote, with another also riffing on the Bible references by declaring “Jesus was a Carpenter”.
It comes ahead of the June 11 release of Man’s Best Friend, which was previewed by lead single “Manchild” and probably has ex Barry Keoghan shaking in his (size four) boots.
