Sabri Lamouchi reveals Nottingham Forest 'hope' for future

Sabri Lamouchi says the best is yet to come from his Nottingham Forest side, following an impressive display at the City Ground.

The Reds ran riot against Birmingham City on Saturday, putting three past their opponents and keeping a clean-sheet as they claimed their first league win under the Frenchman.

They could have triumphed by a greater margin, too, had Samba Sow, Sammy Ameobi and Lewis Grabban not spurned gilt-edged chances in the second half.

Some fans had expressed concerns about a lack of attacking threat in Forest’s opening two Championship games which saw them lose to West Bromwich Albion and draw with Leeds United.

And while his players eased any fears on that front, Lamouchi believes there is still room for improvement across the pitch.

“For us, it was our best performance,” he said of the 3-0 romp. “But I hope there is a better one in the future.

“Yes, there is room for improvement.

“We didn’t give Birmingham anything - no chances to get back in the game, which was really positive.

“We needed to be more ruthless in the box at the end to score one or two more goals. But it was a good game from my players.”

Despite his team being in command, there was little time for the Frenchman to enjoy it during the 90 minutes, however.

Right up until the final whistle, Lamouchi was eager to make sure Forest recorded a first shut-out of the season in the Championship - a second in succession after they beat Fleetwood Town 1-0 in the Carabao Cup in midweek.

“No, I could not enjoy the game because until the end I was really worried about the clean-sheet,” Lamouchi said.

“After getting three goals and limiting them to only a couple of shots on target, it was really important to finish with a clean-sheet.”
