Sabri Lamouchi reveals 'big disappointment' in Nottingham Forest's defeat to Cardiff

Sabri Lamouchi believed his Nottingham Forest side deserved something from their third home defeat of the season against perennial bogey side Cardiff City, having been left with nothing.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing’s driven effort 14 minutes in proved the decisive moment in the game as the Reds were beaten by a goal to nil in front of more than 28,000 fans at the City Ground.

Despite fashioning 32 attempts on Neil Etheridge’s goal, the hosts could only muster two on target, with one of those coming in stoppage time from Matty Cash on an afternoon of intense frustration by the Trent.

Boss Lamouchi admitted losing by the solitary goal was a tough one to take, especially coming on the back of four points from six on the road this week.

“It’s a big disappointment, because it’s one more lost at home after West Brom, Hull and this one. Unfortunately we create a lot, we miss a lot. We started the game very well,” he said.

“The first 10 minutes we miss two big chances with Sammy Ameobi and Joao Carvalho.

“I think they scored with one shot and the second one was a big save from Joe Worrall.

“It’s a big disappointment.”

Forest’s 32 efforts on goal came alongside 69 percent possession against Neil Harris’ men, and despite all their pressure, the Reds just couldn’t create meaningful efforts on goal, and Lamouchi says his players need to work harder in front of goal especially against sides which make life quite so difficult.

“We need to work more, we know that,” said the Frenchman. “The problem is not only that, the most difficult thing in football is to score and you need to create.

“Tonight we created a lot and didn’t score.

“We missed the final pass, it wasn’t clever and it was unlucky.

“There was good commitment from the players, a good atmosphere from the beginning and we tried, but if you give something to the opponent they’ll give you nothing.

“The numbers are clear, we can do more than that.

“We have to try and hit the target, we created big chances and now we have to keep working, keep going.

“At the end, it’s a very difficult result and I think we deserved more than nil points.”
