Sabri Lamouchi confirms Nottingham Forest set to make sixth summer signing

Nottingham Forest are set to sign Spanish striker Miguel Angel Guerrero, boss Sabri Lamouchi has confirmed.

The 30-year-old is expected to arrive from Olympiacos ahead of the Reds’ first game of the season at the weekend, against Barnsley in the Carabao Cup.

He will become Forest’s sixth summer signing, following the arrivals of Jack Colback, Lyle Taylor, Tyler Blackett, Fouad Bachirou and Luke Freeman.

And Guerrero will add to Lewis Grabban, Taylor and Nuno Da Costa as Lamouchi’s attacking options, with the Frenchman having identified up front as an area requiring further strengthening.

“It should be (completed) before the end of the week,” Lamouchi told NottinghamshireLive.

“We need more offensive options.

“Last season, we were so limited in that area and this year it is important for me to have some choice there and some options - because at the end, we finished the season with the players who started.”

Guerrero has been with fellow Evangelos Marinakis-owned side Olympiacos for the past two years, having previously been playing in his homeland for Albacete, Sporting Gijon and Leganes.

He returned to Leganes on loan for the second half of last season, where he scored once in 13 La Liga appearances.

For the most part, though, much of the Reds’ summer transfer business has centred around bringing in players who have experience of the Championship.

Lamouchi believes that is a key factor, after his side narrowly missed out on a top six finish last time out.

Lyle Taylor scored the winner at West Brom (NFFC)

Addressing his team’s habit of conceding important late goals has also been top of the head coach’s agenda.

“It’s exactly the profile of players I want, because I think they are the profile we need - with personality, with character, with quality and - a small detail - they know the league,” he said of the club’s business so far.

“That is important because we don’t have time to lose.

“With these players we have increased the level in training. In short sessions, the level is different.

“We always have big expectations, but the expectation is not bigger than last season or two or three years ago.

“When you play for this club, the challenge is always the same - to make the fans happy, to increase the belief and to try to make the dream come true. That is the next step.

“The beginning is important, to bring all people involved around this project, all in the same direction and looking forward.

“Getting the recruitment right is important because there were many games we should have won and should have closed out.

“We lost many, many points at the end of games.

“Because of that, we decided to be very active in the market - with the right players.”
