I tested the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid mattress — and it’s a game-changer for back sleepers who sleep hot

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress on a bed frame in a bedroom.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress review in brief

When we first tested the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress in 2023, we called it 'close to perfect' — but is that still the case, three years later?

For the past month, I slept on a Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress to not only find out if it's still the all-rounder we claimed it was, but also if it deserves a spot among the best mattresses of 2026.

My full review is below, but if you only have a couple of minutes to spare, here's a summary of my experience...

Meet the tester

Name: Alison Barretta
Age bracket: 40s
Weight bracket: 150-155lbs
Predominant sleep position: Side
Sleep issues: Lower back pain, knee pain, overheating

Priced just below the no. 1-rated Saatva Classic Mattress in the brand's main lineup, the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress has a similar construction with a breathable organic cotton cover, specialized lumbar support, and a reinforced perimeter.

But the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress swaps the Euro Top for a quilted cover. Coming from a hybrid mattress with a pillow top, I missed that extra layer of plushness for my sore back and achy joints. This mattress doesn't necessarily 'hug' you — which works well for back and front sleeping, but not so much for side sleeping.

Saatva rates this mattress a 5-7 out of 10 on its firmness scale. I rate it a 6.5 out of 10, but the smaller members of my testing panel (under 135lbs) scored it closer to an 8. The lighter you are, the more unyielding you'll find it. Larger sleepers, on the other hand, will think it has the right level of tension.

Our previous test was on a king-size Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid, but this time, I tested a twin. Strong edge support remained a constant — this is a stable bed across all sides. It's also quite breathable; not once did I wake up running warm, which has been a recent struggle for me.

The one area of weakness was motion isolation, which I realized during my objective weight drop tests. Naturally, movement on a twin is more exaggerated, but this mattress is quite bouncy, meaning a restless partner is more likely to disturb you.

A queen-size Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid retails for $2,099, but expect that price to drop by $400 during the Memorial Day Mattress sales. Among the broader luxury mattress market, the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is outstanding value for money. It comes with free white glove delivery, a lifetime warranty, and a 365-night sleep trial.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress review: Price and trial

  • One of Saatva's entry-level beds, a queen retails for $2,099
  • Regular Saatva mattress sales cut as much as $400 off
  • Lifetime warranty, one-year trial, free white glove delivery

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is one of the brand's entry-level models, but it's still a premium mattress in the broader market. A queen retails for $2,099, which is just $80 less than the MSRP of a queen Saatva Classic ($2,179).

However, you'll rarely find this mattress at full price because it's discounted during regular Saatva mattress sales, which shave as much as $400 off during major holidays. (That includes this month's Memorial Day sales.)

Here's the official 2026 retail pricing for the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress:

  • Twin MSRP: $1,349
  • Twin XL MSRP: $1,499
  • Full MSRP: $1,799
  • Queen MSRP: $2,099
  • King MSRP: $2,599
  • Cal King MSRP: $2,599
  • Split King MSRP: $2,998

Like most Saatva mattresses, the retail price for the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid has risen, with increases of up to $300 over two years. This issue isn't unique to Saatva, as several brands across the industry have done the same in response to mounting production and distribution costs.

Fortunately, frequent mattress sales help ease the burden of rising retail costs. Plus, with Saatva, you're not just paying for the mattress — you're also getting a lifetime warranty, a one-year sleep trial, and free white glove delivery, with removal of your old bed included.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress review: Design

  • An 11.5-inch hybrid mattress with five layers
  • Reinforced middle for lumbar support
  • High-density foam edges prevent sagging

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is an 11.5" mattress consisting of five layers. On top is an organic cotton cover with the brand's patented Lumbar Zone Quilting in the middle for enhanced lower back support.

Underneath that is a 1.5-inch layer of waved AirCradle foam designed to dissipate heat while relieving pressure. Below that sits a half-inch strip of gel-infused memory foam for added relief and support for the lumbar spine (Notably, these two layers were constructed in reverse order when we previously tested this mattress in 2023.)

The support core comprises a bed of 8-inch pocketed steel coils that aid airflow and create a springy, responsive surface. A high-density foam rail surrounds these coils for enhanced edge support. At the base of the mattress is an inch of support foam for stability.

This fiberglass-free mattress uses natural, plant-based thistle pulp as a flame barrier. The cover is treated with a botanical antimicrobial treatment to help prevent bacteria, mold, and mildew; still, you'll want to wrap it in a mattress protector to safeguard it from spills, stains, and bed bugs.

Each side has two carry handles, making it easier to move or rotate your mattress. (Saatva recommends rotating your mattress at least once a year.)

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress review: Comfort and support

  • We rate it a 6.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale
  • Sleepers under 135lbs may find it skews firm
  • Excellent support, especially for back sleeping...
  • ...but it might not contour enough for side sleepers

I needed at least a week to break this mattress in, as I detailed in my Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress hands-on review. After a month of sleeping on it, was I able to find the level of comfort I wanted from it?

Not quite, but this comes down more to preference than anything.

For the better part of two years, my previous mattress was the now-discontinued Cloverlane Hybrid, a thicker hybrid with a plush Euro Top. (Interestingly, it was also meant to be a direct competitor to the Saatva Classic.)

The mattress did soften the more I slept on it, though I wouldn't call it firm. Saatva rates it between a 5 and 7 on its 10-point firmness scale. Our testing panel — which includes me plus four other sleepers with diverse builds and sleep needs — collectively rate it a 6.5 out of 10.

However, the lightweight sleepers in my group (135 lbs and under) found it firmer, rating it between 7.5 and 8 out of 10. Meanwhile, the average- to heavier-weight sleepers (150lbs and up) rated it between a 4 and a 6.5.

One thing we could all agree on was that although the comfort foams have some give, they don’t offer much contouring. As one side-sleeping tester put it, "I felt like I was kind of falling into the mattress rather than molding to it. Things were starting to get stiff at the hips and the spine.”

As someone dealing with a fresh knee injury and a recent bout of hip soreness, I found myself missing the relative plushness of my previous mattress. Another side-sleeping tester, who has chronic joint pain, found it too stiff at her pressure points.

On the other hand, all of us found the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid excellent for back sleeping. It has just the right amount of tension to distribute our weight evenly. The stomach sleepers among us also found it supportive, particularly in the center, where the Lumbar Zone quilting is.

The mattress sank 3.5" underneath the weight of a 50lb kettlebell. (Image credit: Future / Nancy Gardner)

To objectively test its pressure relief, we placed a 50lb kettlebell in the center of the mattress. The surface sank approximately 3.5 inches under the weight, but as with our human testers, we noticed little contouring around the kettlebell. (Notably, the weight left a small impression that cleared up after a few minutes.)

If you're a side sleeper who craves cushioned pressure relief of a pillow top without compromising proper alignment, take a look at the Helix Midnight Luxe Hybrid Mattress — it tops our guide to the best mattresses for side sleepers.

Otherwise, if you're a back sleeper or someone who doesn't need a mattress that tightly conforms to your body, I think you'll appreciate the stable, responsive support of the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid.

Saatva Memory Foam Mattress review: Delivery and setup

  • White glove delivery included with purchase
  • Also comes with optional removal of your old bed
  • Arrived flat — I could lay on the mattress right away

Saatva mattresses arrive flat via free white glove delivery. This sets Saatva apart from most online mattress-in-a-box brands.

All I had to do was coordinate a time and date with one of Saatva's logistics partners about a week after I placed my order. (I also had to clear a path for the delivery team so they didn't get stuck or break anything.)

(Image credit: Future / Alison Barretta)

The very next day, a truck carrying my Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress arrived near the start of the four-hour delivery window.

Mattress and foundation removal are also included with Saatva's white glove delivery service. I took advantage of that and asked the delivery team to haul my previous mattress away. (I did have to request this ahead of delivery.)

The entire setup process took roughly five minutes. Since my mattress was already fully formed, I could sleep on it immediately if I wanted.

There was a faint off-gassing smell when I first lay on the mattress, likely from the foam comfort layers; however, it was negligible compared to most of the boxed mattresses I've tested. The odor disappeared by bedtime.

While I consider myself a pro at unboxing mattresses at this point, sometimes it's nice to sit back and have someone else do it for you. Best of all, Saatva includes this perk with all of its mattresses at no extra charge.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress review: Performance

  • Noticeable motion transfer
  • Breathable and doesn't trap heat
  • Outstanding edge support

I slept on a twin-size Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress for a month, and invited a diverse group of testers to nap on it for at least 15 minutes and provide their subjective feedback on overall comfort.

Additionally, I evaluated the mattress in key performance areas indicated in our testing methodology: motion isolation, temperature regulation, and edge support. Here's how it fared...

Motion isolation

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is quite a springy mattress. In fact, its responsiveness was the first thing most of us noticed when we initially lay on it. Will that hinder this bed's ability to isolate movement?

Since I have a twin, I had to get creative when testing this metric. I performed a couple of drop tests using a 10lb kettlebell and an empty wine glass.

For the first round, I dropped the weight 12 inches from the base of the wine glass, oriented vertically to allow for more clearance. During the second round, I placed both the glass and weight horizontally, still 12 inches apart, to more closely simulate how two people would lie in bed.

In both rounds, I dropped the kettlebell from 24 inches above the bed. Each round consisted of five drops.

During round one, the empty wine glass fell over four out of five times. In round two, the glass fell over each time. In both rounds, the weight didn't settle until after it took a couple of hops. This suggests that the mattress has a fairly responsive surface that doesn’t absorb impact especially well.

Since this was done on a twin, the test likely exaggerates motion transfer compared to what you’d experience on a larger mattress.

Still, these results suggest that you're likely to notice movements, especially if you're sleeping right next to someone or sharing a bed with a restless partner (or overzealous pet).

If you have the space and budget, opting for a king may help reduce some of that disturbance. That said, if you want to feel as little movement as possible regardless of bed size, a memory foam mattress is usually the better choice. The springs here create noticeable pushback, and that rebound can travel across the bed more easily than it would on an all-foam model.

The Saatva Contour5 Memory Foam Mattress and Tempur-Pedic Tempur-Adapt Mattress are two luxury memory foam beds that excel at absorbing movement.

Score: 3 out of 5

Temperature regulation

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is touted as a mattress with excellent temperature regulation thanks to its breathable, heat-wicking materials, which include a layer of waved memory foam and an organic cotton cover. I can confirm those claims to be true.

I was generally comfortable sleeping on this mattress, even during a surprise April heat wave. I had also been dealing with occasional hot flashes leading up to testing, although those episodes were few and far between. (I'll give the mattress some of the credit for that.)

Now, I do my best to create an optimal sleep environment with bamboo sheets, a lightweight quilt, and a moderate temperature — but even on warmer evenings with the window open, I wasn't waking up in a pool of sweat.

Notably, when I stripped the mattress bare and lay on it, I didn't sense the surface trapping or holding body heat, suggesting the materials are working as advertised. Several of my fellow testers noticed this, as well.

That said, if you regularly deal with severe night sweats and need the cool-to-touch sensation of a specialist cover to help prepare you for sleep, a dedicated cooling mattress may be a better fit.

For most people, however, the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid will do an excellent job of maintaining a comfortable sleep microclimate.

Score: 4.5 out of 5

Edge support

The edges of the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress have minimal give, so they're comfortable to sit on. (Image credit: Future / Alison Barretta (Nancy Gardner))

A high-density foam rail lines the perimeter of the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid to boost edge support so you can safely use as much of its surface as possible.

I sit on the side of my bed every morning before I get up, so strong edges are important to me. Fortunately, the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid passes with flying colors. Not once did I feel unsteady when sitting on or leaning over the edge of the bed.

My testing panel had the same experience. One tester commented, “I didn't feel like I was going to fall out of it when I put my shoes on." Another tester who leaned over the edge of the bed added, "I didn’t feel like I would slide off."

(Image credit: Future / Alison Barretta (Nancy Gardner))

For an objective look, I used the same 50lb weight from the pressure relief test and placed it 3 inches from the center edge to see how much the mattress compressed.

After leaving the weight for five minutes, it sank only about 1.5 inches. (For comparison, I measured a 3.25-inch sink at the center of the mattress.) This bodes well for long-term durability, though in both cases, it took a couple of minutes for the edge to spring back once I removed the weight.

Still, very few mattresses I've tested have come close to having such a sturdy perimeter, especially for a twin bed.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress review: Customer reviews

  • Has a 4.8 out of 5 star rating from around 300 reviews
  • 80% of reviews are 5 star, praising factors like comfort, cooling, pain relief and customer service
  • A very small number of customers had issues with the delivery service or firmness levels of the mattress

As of May 2026, the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid has an overall star rating of 4.8 out of 5 from approximately 300 reviews. Roughly 80% of individual reviews are 5-star. You can filter reviews by star ratings and popular keywords. There's also a search box if you want details for something specific.

Positive reviews reference overall comfort, lumbar support, cooler sleep, stable edges, and pain relief. Satisfied customers are also highly complimentary of Saatva’s customer service, particularly its 365-night at-home sleep trial.

The very few 1-star ratings mainly center around the delivery process (note that Saatva works with third-party logistics companies), while one user disliked the amount of packaging. The remainder of critical reviews cite the bed as too firm — or even too soft, in some cases. (Remember that firmness is subjective.)

Should you buy the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid mattress?

(Image credit: Future / Alison Barretta (Nancy Gardner))

Buy it if...

✅ You sleep on your back: Regardless of our size or typical sleep situation, all of us who tried this mattress found it most comfortable on our backs. The strength of the coils combined with the subtle molding of the comfort foam provided the best balance of support and comfort for this position.

✅ You utilize every inch of your bed: My twin-sized Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid provided excellent edge-to-edge support. This bodes well for the larger sizes, where edge support is arguably more of an asset.

✅ You want to avoid overheating at night: The waved memory foam, organic cotton cover, and wrapped springs prevent heat from being trapped in the mattress. The result? A cooler, cozier night's sleep.

Don't buy it if...

❌ You're a strict side sleeper: Some of us developed pressure buildup and stiffness when resting on our sides. Consider paying a little extra for the Saatva Classic in Soft or Luxury Firm for more relief for side sleepers. (The pillowy Euro Top will certainly help.)

❌ You have chronic aches and pains: The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid might not provide enough contoured relief for sleepers with serious back and joint conditions long-term. The Saatva RX Mattress is a hefty investment, but one that's well worth it if you need one of the best mattresses for back pain.

❌ You're sensitive to movement: I'd sooner recommend the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid to solo sleepers or people who can snooze through just about anything. For couples who want a hybrid with excellent motion isolation, try the Leesa Sapira Hybrid Mattress.

Is the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Mattress worth it?

(Image credit: Future / Alison Barretta (Nancy Gardner))

A few years ago, the price gap between the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid and the Saatva Classic was significant enough that I could easily recommend one over the other, depending on the situation. These days, as retail prices continue to creep upward, that gap has narrowed considerably. The difference can be as little as $50 for a twin when both mattresses are on sale.

If you want more flexibility in how your mattress looks and feels — not to mention a plush Euro Top to sink into — the small price difference makes the Saatva Classic a sure choice. It's our top-rated mattress overall and performs as well as, if not better than, the Memory Foam Hybrid in all areas.

That's not to say the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid has nothing going for it. Quite the contrary! It's supremely supportive and responsive, with sturdy edges and a breathable construction. However, with only one firmness option and questionable motion isolation, it will appeal to a more limited range of sleepers.

But setting the Saatva Classic aside for a moment, the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid remains an excellent value compared to similarly priced hybrid rivals from Casper, Helix, and Beautyrest once you factor in what's included: a one-year sleep trial, a lifetime warranty, and free in-home delivery and mattress removal.

If you decide the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is the right choice for you, here are my recommendations for kitting it out for maximum comfort...
