Saarbruecken: Armed man barricades himself in German restaurant

A gunman reportedly covered in blood has barricaded himself in a restaurant in the western city of Saarbruecken, Germany.

Police said the man has no hostages and there are no suggestions the incident is related to terrorism.

Officers are trying to negotiate with the armed man to convince him to end the standoff.

The man reportedly entered the restaurant called Dubrovnik and told everyone to leave, German newspaper Bild reports.

Police spokesman Kurt Schwindling told AP the man, a relative of the restaurant owner, had entered the restaurant on Sunday morning and sent all the cleaning staff outside.

Mr Schwindling said the man, who was not further identified, was probably suffering from psychological problems. Police did not know exactly what kind of weapon he had.
