A South Australian woman who was high on methamphetamine when she crashed her car head-on into a van, killing two brothers, has been jailed for at least seven years.
Michelle Bubner was behind the wheel of the large four-wheel-drive when it slammed into a Toyota van on Victor Harbor Road at Mt Jagged, south of Adelaide, in May last year.
Killed in the crash were Mojtaba Mohammadi, 31, and his brother Mohammad Jawad Mohammadi, 28.
Sentencing Bubner in the South Australian District Court on Monday, Judge Simon Stretton said she did nothing to avoid the collision, failing to brake or take other evasive action.
"Your driving constituted a complete failure to exhibit the most basic of care, lookout or precautions," the judge said.
"Driving completely onto the wrong side of the road and head-on into another vehicle is a very serious example of this category of offending."
Bubner pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated causing death by dangerous driving.
She had a significant amount of methamphetamine in her system at the time and Judge Stretton said that multiplied the risk of her causing an accident, "many times over".
He said the two brothers did not deserve to have their lives cut short by her drug-fuelled dangerous driving, with the incident also having a devastating effect on other family members.
The court heard that Bubner, 51, had suffered with mental health issues in recent years, was deeply remorseful over the crash, and had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.
She was jailed for nine years with a non-parole period of seven years, two months and 12 days.
