Labuschagne finds form for Qld against SA

Australia's Test star Marnus Labuschagne found form but the Ashes audition of his Queensland teammate Usman Khawaja has been cut short by rain.

Labuschagne is 69 not out against South Australia in their Sheffield Shield match with Khawaja unbeaten on four from seven balls when rain stopped play on Wednesday.

The Bulls are 2-187 with opener Bryce Street top-scoring with 87.

Tuesday's opening day was called off after 50 overs because of a problem area on the pitch at Adelaide's Karen Rolton Oval.

Labuschagne was struck on the gloves three times on Tuesday which prompted play to be suspended when umpires, SA skipper Travis Head and Bulls captain Khawaja elected to allow repairs on an area causing inconsistent bounce.

The fixture is crucial for both Head and Khawaja, who are bidding to claim Australia's No.5 batting spot for the first Test against England starting on December 8 in Brisbane.

Both are in Australia's 15-man Test squad and the Shield fixture is the last chance in a first-class game to press their claims before the Ashes opener.

Khawaja got off the mark with a sweet cover drive for four from Head's bowling before rain, which is forecast to continue into the afternoon, halted play.
