SA records 842 new COVID cases, one death

More than 840 new COVID-19 infections and one death have been recorded in South Australia. (AAP)

South Australia has recorded 842 new cases of COVID-19, the state's highest single-day total.

Monday's figures topped the previous high of 774 infections registered the previous day.

SA Health also confirmed a 94-year-old woman had died with the virus in Adelaide on Sunday but the cause of her death is still being determined.

The woman's death is the fifth of someone with COVID-19 in the state since the start of the pandemic.

There are 23 patients in hospital, with four in intensive care and one requiring ventilation.

More than four out of every five of the new cases are the Omicron variant.

Some 82 of the new infections are known contacts of SA cases, 166 people caught the virus in the state with no known contact and 15 were acquired interstate.

The remaining 579 cases remain under investigation.

Due to changes in reporting data, four cases were duplications from Sunday's tally and have been removed from the total case tally.

More than 92 per cent of the population aged 12 and over have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, with 87 per cent fully vaccinated.
