SA police find prison escapee

A prisoner who escaped from a low security prison farm in South Australia has been found "without incident", police have said.

Kyle Rowett went missing from the Cadell Training Facility in the Riverland about 7:00pm on Thursday when he was unaccounted for at a routine headcount.

He was found by SA police on Friday morning.

Rowett has been at Cadell since May 23 this year after being brought back into custody in June 2018 when he breached his parole.

Department for Correctional Services chief executive David Brown said the aggravated theft was Rowett's current most serious offence and he was due for release on October 7, 2020.

"It [his escape] appears to be impulsive, quite often it can be due to a family or an external pressure," Mr Brown said.

"It can also sometimes be an internal pressure, a conflict of the prisoners at the facility."

Cadell is a low-security prison in the Riverland that focuses on preparing prisoners for release into the community.

"There's no fences at Cadell. It is a working dairy farm and citrus property," he said.

"We do have some security systems but not what you would see in a secure custody site."

Mr Brown said an internal investigation would be undertaken.
