A South Australian police officer will face court next week over serious assault charges.

Police say an investigation led to the serving officer being summonsed to appear in court to answer allegations of committing three counts of aggravated assault causing harm and two counts of aggravated assault.

It is alleged the assaults occurred across four different incidents and involved four people between August and December last year.

The police officer has been suspended from duty and is expected to appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court on April 19.

The ABC asked for more detail about the officer's age and sex, where the offences occurred and when the officer received the summons.

"SÃPOL have no further comment, the matter will be in court on Monday," a police spokeswoman said.
