SA police investigate unexplained death of Riverland man

Riverland man Paul Maguire has been remembered as a "sweet" man.

Police are continuing to investigate the unexplained death of Riverland man Paul Maguire, as officers await an autopsy report to help determine if his cause of death was suspicious.

Major Crime detectives and forensic officers examined his Kingston-On-Murray house today after his body was found at 12:30pm on Sunday.

The 55-year-old was a long-time volunteer for Riding for the Disabled Riverland — a charity that helps people with disabilities develop their horse riding skills and take part in assisted activities.

Vikki Morris from Riding for the Disabled Riverland said Mr Maguire had volunteered at the charity for the past decade, and described him as a lovely and "sweet" man who always had a smile on his face.

"It is just tragic, it was such a shock," she said.

"We have got to go in tomorrow and run our lessons and it's just going to be a totally different day, it's just not going to be the same.

"The kids will definitely notice him missing tomorrow and that's going to be hard for us to explain to them."

Police were called to the property on Henry Road at Kingston-On-Murray after reports Mr Maguire's body had been found.

In a statement, SA Police said further investigation was needed to determine if the death was suspicious, self-inflicted or from natural causes.

According to a friend of Mr Maguire, he lived with three dogs — including an English bull mastiff, which was described as "very aggressive."

The dogs have now been removed from the property.
