Police are appealing to the public for information that may help locate an electric wheelchair stolen from a backyard in Adelaide's western suburbs.
SA Police (SAPOL) said the wheelchair was taken from the rear yard of a home at Richmond sometime between 10:00pm yesterday and 7:00am today.
In a statement, SAPOL said the wheelchair had special features to specifically assist the victim's mobility.
Disability Advocacy and Complaints Service of South Australia chief executive Kendall Field said it was "not just the cost of a specialised chair like this that makes the theft deplorable".
"It's what this means for the person who relies on the chair for mobility, daily living tasks and accessing the community," Ms Field said.
"This act demonstrated blatant disregard for the person living with disability and a complete lack of care or awareness as to the extent this will negatively impact the owner's quality of life."
