The use of election posters will be significantly restricted under new legislation introduced in the South Australian parliament.
The proposed laws prevent the use of posters, also known as corflutes, on most roadsides with exemptions for when they are close to polling booths.
Candidates or parties will only be able to display a maximum of four corflutes, within 50 metres of each booth.
Attorney-General Vickie Chapman said the changes would minimise the use of the contentious and environmentally damaging signage.
"Every election cycle, thousands of corflutes are printed, many of which end up on the scrapheap," she said.
"The posters are detrimental to the environment and the cable ties used to fix them to stobie poles often end up harming local wildlife."
If passed, the new laws will apply for the next state election due on March 19 next year.
