A man has died after being tasered during his arrest.
Police confronted the man just before 12.30pm on Sunday, after reports a he was armed with a metal pole in Clare, South Australia.
It is alleged the 44-year-old was damaging property with the pole and later threatened two officers when they arrived.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, SA Police chief superintendent David Donovan said the taser was deployed after the man threatened police.
"I'm briefed that the taser was activated but it was ineffective," Supt Donovan told reporters.
"Police were then involved in arresting the male and it is during the arrest procedure that the man became unresponsive. Police acted immediately to render first aid and continued to render first aid until medical assistance was on scene."
