SA man deliberately hits homeless man with his car, police allege

Police allege a man drove his car into another man walking along the side the Sturt Highway at Monash on Monday morning.

A Renmark man deliberately hit a homeless man with his car this morning before assaulting him, SA Police say.

Police said a 34-year-old man of no fixed address was walking along the Sturt Highway about 40 kilometres west of the Victorian border when the Renmark man hit him with a car just after 10:00am.

They allege that the driver then exited his vehicle and assaulted the man.

He sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the Berri Hospital before being airlifted to Adelaide for treatment, but his injuries are not considered life-threatening.

The driver was arrested at the scene and police said he would be charged later today.

Riverland Police said the men were known to each other.

They are asking anyone who witnessed the incident and has not yet spoken to police to call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Anyone with potential footage of the incident is also asked to contact police.
