SA Labor makes frontbench change

Emily Bourke will take on SA Labor's local government and city of Adelaide portfolios. (AAP)

Labor upper house MP Emily Bourke has joined the opposition frontbench, replacing Jayne Stinson who recently moved to the backbench for personal reasons.

Ms Bourke will take on the local government and city of Adelaide portfolios as Labor moves to maintain its 50-50 gender balance in the shadow cabinet.

She was elected to the Legislative Council at the 2018 state election.

In other changes, Zoe Bettison has picked up multicultural affairs, Katrine Hildyard will take on arts and Andrea Michaels will add planning to her responsibilities.

Opposition Leader Peter Malinauskas said he was thrilled to have someone of Ms Bourke's talent on the front bench and proud to have a balance between men and women in the shadow cabinet.

Ms Bourke said it was an honour to join the frontbench team and take on the local government portfolio.

"Local communities are so important to everyday life, and I hope I can focus on these portfolio areas to improve life for all South Australians," she said.

Ms Stinson, a former TV reporter, was also elected to parliament in 2018 and was considered a rising star in Labor ranks.
