SA hit run victim dies, charges upgraded

An SA woman is facing upgraded charges after the death of a man knocked down by a car last month. (AAP)

A man critically injured in an alleged hit and run crash in Adelaide last month has died in hospital.

Police say the 70-year-old was struck at Goodwood in the city's south just before 10pm on June 30.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene after reports the car involved in the accident left the area without stopping.

The pedestrian, a Goodwood local, was taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital in a critical condition.

Police say he died from injuries sustained in the incident on Friday evening.

Major Crash Squad officers charged a 29-year-old Cumberland Park woman with causing harm by dangerous driving and leaving the scene of a collision on July 1.

Following her arrest, she was bailed to appear in Adelaide Magistrates Court on September 8.

However the charges would be upgraded to causing death by dangerous driving and leaving the scene after a fatal collision, police said on Saturday.

The man's death is the 54th on South Australian roads this year compared to 48 at the same time last year.
