Half-centuries from Alex Carey and Harry Nielsen have helped South Australia set Western Australia a target of 332 on day four of the Sheffield Shield match in Perth.
SA resumed at 4-142, holding a 243-run lead, then declared at 9-230.
The hosts have approximately 73 overs to complete the chase at the WACA.
Carey (82 not out) and Nielsen (67) kept the game ticking along during Sunday's opening hour, prompting Redbacks skipper Travis Head to declare for the second time in the match.
Carey, whose previous first-class game was a tour match against India in early December, scored freely on a flat pitch that has already produced a total of 1149 runs.
Legspinner Liam O'Connor, having gone wicketless as the visitors compiled a first-innings total of 5-409 (dec), finished with 3-53 from 11 overs.
O'Connor dismissed Jake Lehmann and Chadd Sayers in the space of three deliveries on Sunday morning then removed David Grant in the same spell.
It is O'Connor's first Shield game since November, 2019.
Head scored a career-best 223 in the first innings to put the game on SA's terms.
