S Mike Adams chose to sign with the Texans to win

Sixteen-year safety Mike Adams has gotten close to winning the Super Bowl, like in 2013 when he was with the Denver Broncos, but he’s yet to boast a gaudy ring on his finger.

He’s hoping, that by signing with the Houston Texans, that will change.

“I wouldn’t go to a team that didn’t have a chance,” Adams told reporters on Wednesday. “It’s not about that for me, it’s about winning and taking that next step. And if you see the moves [coach] (Bill) O’Brien is making, and all the things he’s doing, he’s focused on winning, and I’m on board with that.”

Adams, 38, as he noted, got calls from several other teams. However, his one work out, with the Texans, was his last. One reason he chose to stay in Houston was due to one of their losses, a 30-28 heart-breaker to the New Orleans Saints on Monday Night Football in Week 1.

“I think I got the chills watching that Saints game,” said Adams. “I know it didn’t come out how they wanted it to, but it shows promise, and it shows what this team can do, and I would love to be a part of something like that.”

Adams, a two-time Pro Bowler with the Indianapolis Colts (2014-15), will get his first shot to help the Texans win on Sunday when Houston hosts the 1-3 Atlanta Falcons. Though he isn’t likely to start, he’ll provide critical depth behind Justin Reid and Tashaun Gipson and alongside Jahleel Addae.
