March 10--The baseball action is heating up in the desert, and not just on the diamond. San Francisco Giants pitcher Matt Cain has tossed his 11,084-square-foot home in Paradise Valley, Ariz., on the market for $5.85 million.
Set behind gates on close to two acres, the Santa Barbara-style estate brings to mind an oasis in the desert with mature greenery, rolling lawns, a koi pond and a running stream. Art sculptures, a guest house turned media room, a putting green and a zero-edge swimming pool fill out the grounds.
Within the home, a single story of living brings a mix of old and new styles. A mahogany-paneled office and formal dining room feature parquet wood floors, and beamed ceilings top the great room. Crystal chandeliers, neutral-toned hues and an updated kitchen are among the contemporary details.
The master suite has a marble-lined bathroom with a large soaking tub and glass-enclosed shower. There are five bedroom and 6.5 bathrooms in all.
An elevator connects the home to an eight-car garage and workshop. A porte-coch貥 sits off the entrance.
Cain bought the estate three years ago for $5.5 million.
