S Club's Paul Cattermole's heartbreaking gesture after candid Loose Women appearance about money struggles

Paul Cattermole, the S Club 7 star who has died at the age of 46, made a heartbreakingly kind gesture after an appearance on Loose Women, which saw him candidly speak about his money struggles.

Back in 2018, when Paul was asked to appear as a guest on the ITV talk show, he didn't have enough money to pay for a new outfit to wear. Keen to have the popstar join them on the show, Loose Women bosses gave him a smart black long-sleeved top to wear during his interview.

They expected that the singer would keep the shirt, but Paul kindly decided to leave it behind in his dressing room - and took to Twitter afterwards to explain that he didn't want anyone to think he was stealing it, the Mirror reports.

He sent a message to the show's official account, saying: "Thanks to all the Ladies @loosewomen thanks for being so nice. I left the shirt in the dressing room. Just in case you though I had pilfered it."

In an emotional interview with the panel, the singer opened up about his serious money troubles. Asked whether any family members had helped him out financially, he insisted that his "mum has helped in a big way this year".

He also said that he was very keen to dip his toe into reality TV, citing Dancing On Ice and I'm A Celeb as examples, but quipped: "For some reason they don't want me".

Fans rushed to tell Paul how brave he had been in speaking about how little money he had after the success of S Club 7. One told him: "I Was so moved by your interview. Such a brave thing to do. It must have been so difficult for you."

They added: "I hope you are soon in a better situation. Emotionally and financially. And remember that there are a lot of people who love and care for you. Always remember that."

Another fan told him: "I just wanted to give you a big hug and invite you over for a cooked meal after hearing of your financial troubles. Hope it looks up for you." A third said: "Keep your head held high. Your life will turn around. Keep positive. I always say think positive and positive things happen."

Paul broke hearts across the nation when it was announced he was quitting S Club 7 back in 2002. He told the Guardian: "It had got to the point where things were being handled so badly, I had to go."

Five years after S Club broke up, Paul started performing at nightclub, universities and holiday camps across the UK with Jo and Bradley as S Club 3.

The singer was found dead on Thursday afternoon at his home in Dorset, according to a statement from the band and his family. His sudden death comes shortly after S Club 7 announced an upcoming 25th anniversary tour, which would see the original band members reunited.

The band were set to embark on an 11-date arena tour, with the first show on October 13 in Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena. Other dates include shows in Dublin, Glasgow, Newcastle and Manchester.
