Ryotaro Mershino joins Hearts on season-long loan from Manchester City

Hearts have completed the signing of Manchester City forward Ryotaro Mershino.

The club have announced the 21-year-old attacker joins from the English Premier League champions on a season-long loan deal, becoming the Jambos' first ever Japanese player.

Mershino joined the Citizens earlier this summer after impressing for hometown club Gamba Osaka and the Japanese Under 23 side.

Hearts announced the signing on their website this afteroon saying: "Hearts have completed the loan signing of Ryotaro Meshino from Manchester City on a season-long deal, subject to international clearance.

"The Osaka-born forward came through the youth ranks at Gamaba Osaka – one of the J-League’s most successful clubs – before penning his first professional  contract at the age of 17.

"Consistently impressing in the U23 side, where he had around a 1 in 3 strike rate, he made his senior debut in April 2018.

"Scorer of some spectacular goals, Ryotaro went on to make a total of 36 appearances for Gamba’s first team, scoring six times, before catching the attention of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City."

Meanwhile, Hearts confirmed - subject to international clearance - Mershino could be available for selection in tomorrow's match against Hamilton.
