Ryortaro Meshino helps Japan defeat Brazil 3-2 in first start for U22 side

Ryotaro Meshino helped Japan Under 22s to a 3-2 victory over the Brazil Olympic side.

The on-loan Manchester City midfielder was included in the squad for the first time after being called up for the training camp in Brazil, which also featured a friendly against Sao Paulo.

Meshino, sporting a new peroxide blond hairstyle, was handed his first start as a goal from Yuta Nakayama and two from Ao Tanaka gave the Samurai Blue victory in Recife.

Meshino has impressed since joining Hearts on loan last month, and scored his first goal for the club in a 3-2 defeat to Motherwell at Tynecastle.

Manager Craig Levein believes there’s more to come from the 21-year-old as he continues to settle in to a new way of life in Edinburgh.

"He has taken a little bit of time to get up to full speed and I don't think he is there yet,” he said prior to the international break. “I think the three games in a week took their toll on him. He wasn't quite at his best against St Mirren.

“There is no doubt he has helped us. I'm really excited about how much he can help us going forward.”
