Rylan lands BBC Eurovision role with Scott Mills after outpouring of support

Rylan Clark has been announced as a host of BBC's Eurovision coverage after an outpouring of support for the TV star following newspaper coverage of him at the weekend.

On Sunday, former X Factor star was on the front page of one tabloid after a video was obtained of him shouting 'gimme the gear!' on a night out.

The front page and online coverage of the incident prompted an outpouring of support for the star who went onto win Celebrity Big Brother after becoming one of X Factor's most talked about contestants in 2012.

Backing Rylan amidst the media storm, The Chase's Jenny Ryan posted: "The people of this country are forming a protective ring around Rylan - and rightly so. An actual Treasure." and ex Gogglebox star Rev Kate Bottley tweeted: "I’d like to volunteer to do a rallying speech at some stage to support the movement, preferably with a mega phone in Trafalgar Square while we all wear Rylan masks. You in?"

Their sentiments were echoed by fans all over the UK and they, like the man himself, are now delighted that he has been confirmed to host the Eurovision semi finals on BBC Three in May, alongside Scott Mills.

One fan reacted to BBC Eurovision's tweet confirming the news, by writing: "Best news ever."

Rylan and Scott will present the first semi final on Tuesday, May 10 and then the second on Thursday, May 12, before Graham Norton takes over for the final on Saturday, May 14.

This year's contest will broadcast live from Turin after Italian act Maneskin triumphed in Rotterdam last year, with France in second and Switzerland in third.

There is no news yet on who will represent the UK this year, although there has been some speculation that it could be singer/songwriter Chelcee Grimes, who was a Eurovision host for the BBC last year.
