Rylan Clark-Neal voices support for Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford after This Morning axe

Rylan Clark-Neal threw his support behind Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford after they were axed from This Morning.

Affectionately the presenter, 32, called the duo his TV mum and dad as he urged the couple deserved to achieve "every success".

This Morning has dropped Ruth and Eamonn from their Friday slots, replacing them with Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary.

But Rylan didn't shy away from throwing his support behind the couple following the surprise shake up.

He told The Daily Star : "Ruth and Eamonn are my telly mum and dad, they have been since day one. They have been my biggest supporters out of the entire industry...

"They are still doing holidays and stuff on This Morning so it is nice we will still see them on there, but if it frees up their time to do other stuff then I really hope so, as they are really lovely people."

Rylan hailed the presenting pair as "genuine decent people" who are "lovely to everyone they meet".

He added: "If my opinion is worth anything to anyone reading this, they are two of the most genuine decent people out there and they deserve every success. They work hard and they are lovely to everyone they meet."

The trio have grown close as Rylan has worked on This Morning over the years.

Rylan also gave his best wishes to new hosts Alison and Dermot.

Earlier in the day, the new presenting duo shared their first official statements as they took on the Friday hosting positions.

Alison said in a statement: "I never dreamt that when I first joined This Morning - initially for a few months - that I would still be there 19 years later.

"I genuinely care about the show and the viewers who watch, so it's a huge privilege and honour to be hosting a show I adore so much.

"I'm just really excited to be doing even more of what I love alongside the lovely Dermot."

X Factor's Dermot added: "I'm deeply thrilled and honoured to be joining the This Morning team next year.

"We have huge shoes to fill and we are well aware what a privilege it is to be stepping into them.

"Above all, we want to have fun and for you to be able to kick your weekend off with a smile, especially given the year we've all had.

"So I'm delighted to be co-hosting with the living embodiment of sunshine on a rainy day. I can't wait to get started."

*This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
