Rylan Clark mistaken for Eurovision entry due to 'unique' outfit choices

By Jasmine Allday

Rylan Clark has confessed he was mistaken for a Eurovision entry thanks to his bold outfit choices.

The much-loved TV presenter has joined Scott Mills in Turin, Italy to lead the UK's coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest alongside veteran Graham Norton, and in a chat on The One Show, Scott revealed Rylan has been mistaken for one of the entries multiple times.

This year's UK entry is Sam Ryder, who Graham Norton has described as "our best hope for years".

And during a chat with hosts Alex Jones and Ronan Keating, the trio were quizzed about Rylan's case of mistaken identity, as Alex asked: "Before we start Scott, we do need to clear something up because we've been told people there are wishing Rylan good luck."

Speaking live from Italy, Scott shared: "So I don't know if you saw Rylan's outfit on Tuesday and again this evening, you can see why some people in Turin may think that he is one of the contestants."

"We've got to the point now that I just put on an Eastern European accent and I think they think I'm Romanian," Rylan then replied.

Scott revealed it had happened moments before the trio came on air.

"So it just happened again as we walked in, someone said 'Good luck tonight,' and he was like thanks," Scott said, as Rylan then added in an accent: "Thanks so much, so happy to be here."

The outfits were designed by Raph Dilhan, who was a finalist in The Great British Sewing Bee last year. The stunning looks were created to mark Rylan's return to Eurovision this year.

Meanwhile, Rylan previously confessed he has been angering Eurovision bosses by taking the UK contestants drinking before the final, but he insists that won’t stop him doing the same with UK hopeful Sam.

"It is tradition that I always take the British act out, normally on the Wednesday or the Thursday, and then the head of delegation always has a go at me because I take them out," he said, "But I will make sure Sam is all right by Saturday night."

Graham described this year's UK hopeful Sam as a "star".

"Sam Ryder is a star. I honestly think he is our best hope for years. He has been getting a great response around Europe as he promotes Spaceman, so fingers crossed for some points this year," he said.

"I really think Italy might do that rarest of things and walk away triumphant for the second year in a row. That song is huge."
