Rylan Clark received a welcome record ratings boost after crafty scammers tried to rob his bank account.
The TV star has endured a torrid few months after splitting from husband Dan Neal and news his beloved mum Linda has skin cancer.
So when thieves tried to empty his savings, it’s no wonder the former X Factor singer was able to poke fun at himself and joke he was “poor”.
Thankfully the scammers didn’t get away with any of his hard-earned cash – and the BBC Radio 2 host was able to toast success this week after his radio show achieved a whopping record 2.3million listeners.
“Don’t wanna [sic] get gushy but genuinely thank you all so much,” beamed Rylan in a post to his 1.5million Instagram fans.
“Can’t believe 2.3million of you listen to me talk nonsense each week.
“I suppose the tunes make up for it. Thank you xxx @bbcradio2.”
Popular Rylan has seen his career go from strength-to-strength ever since endearing himself to TV viewers for his X Factor stint back in 2012.
The 33-year-old star was a regular This Morning host and has presented a string to top shows, including Celebrity Big Brother’s Bit on the Side, Ready Steady Cook and It Pays to Behave.
And it wasn’t long before his army of fans took to social media to show the presenter their support.
“Because you’re amazing!!” gushed social influencer Sophie Hincliffe.
“Love being on your show!! Can I come in one day and choose some tunes with you. Rylan & Hinch throwbacks xx @rylan xx.
Fellow This Morning favourite Ruth Langsford teased: “Amazing! When you having me on?! X”
Strictly Come Dancing star Janette Manrara praised: “I could listen to you all day!!! Love ya hubby.”
No doubt the complimentary comments will be very welcome by Rylan as he tries to move on from his very public break-up with husband Dan.
The 33-year-old TV personality blamed himself for the break-up and revealed his sadness that his marriage was over.
He admitted at the time: “I have made a number of mistakes which I deeply regret and have inevitably led to the breakdown of our marriage.”
Rylan revealed he was trying to “seek help” as he looked to deal with personal issues which had left him “not in a good place at the moment”.
And so the latest theft attempt from thieves trying to steal his cash was hardly welcome, especially at a time when he is trying to get his personal and professional life back on track.
“Rylan’s one of the BBC’s favourite stars,” an insider told The Sun.
"When he returned to work everyone supported him but when he broke down people were concerned he’d come back too fast.
“One of the BBC’s top brass was at the meeting. They even suggested he take a year’s break to focus on himself.”
