Ireland is set to host the 2026 Ryder Cup, with Adare Manor due to be confirmed as the setting.

A deal has been struck between organisers of the European Tour and the Irish government for the Ryder Cup to return to Ireland for the first time in 20 years.

The last time the country hosted the biennial competition was in 2006, when the K Club in Dublin was chosen.

While hosting the Ryder Cup can cost millions, it can also generate huge revenue and the Irish economy could bank around £150m.

The deal to take the Ryder Cup back to Ireland is due to be rubber-stamped at an Irish cabinet meeting in Donegal.

Adare Manor, in County Limerick, is owned by businessman JP McManus and will host the Pro-am that bears his name next year. It has also been tipped to stage an Irish Open at some point.

The Ryder Cup will be held at Whistling Straits, Wisconsin, next year and at the Marco Simone Golf and Country Club, Rome, in 2022.
