Ryder Cup 2025 LIVE!
It’s Ryder Cup week as Team Europe prepare to defend their title against the United States at Bethpage Black in Long Island, New York. Luke Donald’s team of stars are aiming to retain the trophy for the first time since 2014, where they won 16.5-11.5 at Gleneagles under Paul McGinley. Now, they are Stateside, looking to win the Ryder Cup on enemy territory after two failed attempts in 2016 and 2021.
The last time Europe won on American soil was back in 2012, where Jose María Olazabal, this time one of the vice-captains, led them to victory in Illinois. This opening ceremony was supposed to be happening tomorrow, but has been brought forward to today due to concerns over the weather. Storms are forecast to hit Bethpage tomorrow, and now, both teams, led by Donald and Keegan Bradley, will be introduced this evening.
Despite the ceremony being moved to today, the pairings for the opening foursomes matches will still be announced tomorrow, Thursday. Follow the Ryder Cup latest with Standard Sport’s live blog below!

Bradley speech
21:36 , Oli Gent“When I got the call, I was stunned, more than that, honoured,” he opens.
“This moment is surreal. For us, golf is the family business.
“The grit, the grind, the rhythm of the city taught me how to lead, the passion of the cause, there’s nothing like New York City.
“Golf at its best is more than a game. It’s bigger than any one of us.”
Bradley on the mic
21:29 , Oli GentA better reception for the US captain, as he steps up for his speech.
Donald introduces vice-captains and players
21:27 , Oli GentThey all rise, one by one, to a better ovation than Donald has been getting for his speech.
Donald speech
21:23 , Oli Gent“We know what awaits us, Bethpage is not shy, loyal and ferociously loud, rightly so,” Donald adds.
“You respect effort over ego, those who fight, grind and rise to the big occasions. You make us earn every cheer.
“We may not be your team, but we’ll give you something to respect, admire and maybe something to cheer for.
“Bethpage is the perfect venue for this contest, a public course, state park, it’s a course for the people, on both sides, they belong. Our players are ready. They’ve earned their spots, not through entitlement, but excellence.”
Donald speech
21:22 , Oli Gent“It is an honour to stand here today as captain of the European Ryder Cup team,” he says.
“To lead these men, is one of the greatest privileges of my life. Not just individual players, from nine nations, but one team. Defined by unity, playing for something greater than ourselves.
“It means so much to us, and it’s unlike anything else in this sport, it’s not about prize money or world ranking points. It’s about pride. Representing your flag, shirt and the legacy you leave behind.”
Donald on the mic

Rose 'star struck' by Zola
20:30 , Oli GentJustin Rose said in his press conference yesterday that he was “star struck” seeing Gianfranco Zola, who is part of Europe’s backroom staff for the tournament.
The former Chelsea striker is Francesco Molinari’s desginated on-course buggy driver, as a friend of the Italian.
“Obviously he’s a Chelsea legend, clearly I’m a Chelsea fan,” Rose said.
“I didn’t know he was coming this week. So it was a huge surprise, and literally, he was one of the first people I bumped into.
“I was coming around the corner at the hotel to the lifts and bumped into him.
“I meet a lot of really cool people in my life through the game of golf. But I was like, ‘Whoa! Wow! Hey, Gianfranco!’.
“I was star-struck which is amazing.“Football hits differently, especially back at home, and obviously the career he’s had….
“I’ve become more of an engaged football fan in the last decade, I would say. I have a 16-year-old-son who’s mad about his football. So it’s really been a thing we connect with now.
“I think his energy, what he can provide, I think he’s here just to – let’s call it fly on the wall.
“But I think if there’s a moment that he observes and can kind of chime in and can understand the pressure or can understand momentum or locker room mentality, then obviously there’s probably going to be something this week where he can relay a really powerful message.
“Hopefully he has that opportunity because I’d love to hear it.”
