Ryder Cup 2021 prize money: Purse details as players prepare to tee it up at Whistling Straits

The Ryder Cup is finally upon us as Europe and the USA prepare to do battle in one of golf's premier events.

And the latest Ryder Cup comes a whole year later than expected, originally pencilled in for 2020, the decision was made to postpone the tournament so that fans could attend.

And as the golfing world converges on Whistling Straits in Wisconsin this weekend, we've taken a look at where the prize money goes from the unique showpiece.

Here's a breakdown of how the prize money works this weekend:

Prize money

Europe: When the tournament is hosted in Europe, the European Tour receives 60% of the tournament profits.

Players are not officially paid for their effort, however do receive gifts from the captain paid for from an allocated prize pool.

USA: When the tournament is hosted in the US, the PGA Tour splits the profits in a 5:1 ratio.

Similar to Europe, players aren't officially compensated, but US players are each allocated $200,000 in their name to charity - with that sum split evenly between educational charities and charities of a player’s choosing.
