Ryder Cup 2018 - as it happened: Team Europe take control over USA on day two

Europe seized control of the 2018 Ryder Cup on a thrilling second day in Paris.

The hosts took the morning fourballs 3-1 before keeping that advantage in the afternoon foursomes to take what could prove a decisive 10-6 lead into the final day.

Here's how it played out:

And finally it's the captain Thomas Bjorn:

"We've got to take all that in, and you look at Brookline, Medinah, plenty of examples of these scorelines not meaning a lot until you get to singles. Just keep going. Keep going hard, keep going with what we've got, and you know, I've seen too many times what the singles does.

"It's a completely different game tomorrow and that makes a lot of refocusing and getting back into that team room and recover. We used a lot of energy these days. We go again tomorrow. Try and focus on what's ahead."

Justin Rose & Henrik Stenson are also speaking to Sky Sports:

Stenson: "It was a tough match and we were up there coming into the last couple of holes, and Brooks, he hit a lovely shot into 15 and I didn't hit my best shot into 16 and it all got very interesting from there on, but a couple of big putts from me that I managed to squeeze in the right direction."

Rose: "We hung with it. We knew like yesterday, if you can keep around even par in foursomes - and it was probably hard for them to find their best stuff this afternoon, too."

Tiger Woods speaks after losing all three matches he's played so far:
"Everything feels pretty good. Just the fact that I lost three matches, and didn't feel like I played poorly. That's the frustrating thing about match play. We can play well and nothing can happen. We ran against two guys that were both playing well and when one was out of the hole, especially in best-ball, the other one made birdie and vice versa. They did that a lot to us. At one point, they made, what, six out of eight birdies on the back nine, and only one person was in the hole at a time. That's the nature of match play."
Planet Moliwood...
Poulter & McIlroy def. by Spieth & Thomas 4&3

That putt meant a lot to Jordan Spieth. He banged his chest so hard that he may well be bruised in the morning. He's been the leader for the Americans this week.

10-6 it is heading into Sunday. What a day.

Butch Harmon is lost for words...well not really. He just repeats "I love the Ryder Cup". This has been a heck of a tournament so far.

Now it's Spieth. If it goes in that's the match...and it does.
Poulter & McIlroy vs Spieth & Thomas (4UP)

It's Poulter to go first and if he misses it's all over. Drains it.
Poulter & McIlroy vs Spieth & Thomas (4UP)

McIlroy hits a brilliant approach into the fifteenth but Justin Thomas' is even better. This American pairing have been exceptional and Furyk will be relieved that at least his decision to split the Reed & Spieth partnership has paid off. Spieth & Thomas have won three of their four matches.
Europe will almost certainly take a 10-6 lead into the Sunday singles but it's not all over. It was the same score on Saturday evening in Medinah....
Poulter & McIlroy vs Spieth & Thomas (4UP)

There's only one match left out there and this one is at dormie too. Spieth holed a brilliant putt at 14 to halve the hole when it looked like Poulter was set to get one back but now it's just a matter of time.

Garcia & Noren def by. Watson & Simpson 3&2

It's all coming to a close now. They were dormie-four and managed to clinch one. Then they came to the par-3 sixteenth and Alex Noren must have thought he'd won that too after he his tee-shot dropped like a stone in gimme range but Bubba was up to the task. He hit it to ten feet and Simpson putt to half ended the comeback. 10-5 now.

And now Jonathan Liew is there too:
People were wondering whether we'd ever see the old Tiger Woods again. Now he's royally screwing up in the Ryder Cup, I'd say he's well and truly here. Welcome back, old friend.
Ed Malyon:
Europe fans taunting Bryson DeChambeau with “You’re French and you know you are”
Molinari & Fleetwood def. Woods & DeChambeau 5&4

And it's all over here too. It's four from four!

Rose & Stenson def. Koepka & Johnson 2&1

Stenson holes it and Koepka's now got seven foot to stay in the match. It's a nervy one and it turns away at the end. They've done it! If (when) Europe win this Ryder Cup they'll certainly look back on those putts as a huge moment of defence.
Rose & Stenson (1UP) vs Koepka & Johnson

Hulk Koepka hacks it out the hay well though and it just comes up short of the green. Rose misjudges it and they're also short. It's a chip-off and Johnson's stabby little lob wedge was ugly but effective. Rose's wasn't brilliant either.
