Ryanair tweet aimed at NUFC star Joelinton backfires big time - as fed-up customers demand refunds

A cheeky tweet aimed at NUFC star Joelinton backfired after fed-up customers demanded the airline sort out their overdue refunds.

The budget Irish airline took aim at the £40m striker after a passenger tweeted a picture of St James Park taken onboard a flight from Newcastle International Airport.

The firm replied: "Fun fact: you could fly the whole population of Newcastle to Mallorca three times and it would still cost less than Joelinton."

However that didn't sit well with customers who claimed they'd been waiting several months for Ryanair to issue refunds for flights cancelled due to coronavirus.

One wrote:: "Here is a fun fact. You still owe me £250 from April."

Another fired back at the firm by tweeting: "Fun fact, you could walk from Newcastle to Mallorca and back three times by the time it takes you to get a Ryanair refund."

Ryanair's tweet, sent on Monday afternoon, has since generated over 1,000 retweets and comments.

They include one person who said the firm should "concentrate on customer service and not s**** jokes".

The firm has been frequently slammed by passengers for its performance during the pandemic. A recent MoneySavingExpert.com survey revealed just 4% of passengers had been fully refunded for cancelled flights.

That's despite UK laws stating firms must fully refund flights within seven days.

Ryanair's website states that it is "making rapid progress in processing the refunds of customers who booked directly for flights cancelled during the period from March to June" due to the pandemic.

Newcastle United signed Joelinton last summer. However the club's record signing only scored twice in the Premier League last season.

The forward, who was handed the prestigious number nine shirt upon arrival, has since promised Toon fans that there will be 'definite improvements' next season.
