Ryanair slashes flights in October due to 'government mismanagement' of Covid-19

Budget airline Ryanair has announced that it is set to further reduce its operations due to ongoing coronavirus restrictions.

The airline, which operates from Edinburgh Airport, is going to chop 20% of its planned October flights, blaming EU governments for “excessive and defective” travel restrictions.

Ryanair has said that its capacity in October will be 40% of 2019 levels, compared with the 50% it previously announced.

The low-cost carrier says that this is due to a drop in bookings and the introduction of quarantine restrictions whilst travelling.

In a press release, the airline stated that air travel across the EU is not the only issue and that it feels that “defective” travel bans are not a solution.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: "“While it is too early yet to make final decisions on our winter schedule (from November to March), if current trends and EU governments’ mismanagement of the return of air travel and normal economic activity continue, then similar capacity cuts may be required across the winter period.”
