Ryanair's position on flight refunds as France quarantine begins

Holidaymakers are facing a nightmare situation as more countries have been added to the UK's quarantine list from early this morning.

From 4am today (Saturday), travellers making their way back from France, as well as Netherlands, Monaco, Malta, Turks and Caicos and Aruba, will have to self-isolate for 14 days.

The government made the decision late on Thursday night following a rise in coronavirus cases leading to many scrambling to make it back to the UK before the measures were imposed.

This meant many paid out for earlier flights and ferry journeys back home to avoid the quarantine regulations.

It will also impact on those who have booked trips to any of the recently quarantined countries, with some travellers seeking to either rearrange their holiday, or cancel altogether.

But refunds throughout the pandemic have been a tricky process.

And Ryanair has made its position very clear.

An update shared on the company's website says: "Please note that government-imposed advice on quarantine period will not result in the flight being cancelled and automatic entitlement to refunds."

However, the budget airline has said that from June 10, customers who booked to travel in July and August will be able to move their flights with no change fee to travel until December 31, 2020.

The date change will only apply to the route customers had already booked and trips must be completed before the year comes to an end.

Ryanair has been processing the refunds of customers who booked directly for flights cancelled between March and June.

The airline's aim was to have all of May and June's cash refund applications processed by the end of July.
