Ryanair's 'brutally funny' jibe at Boris Johnson amid 'partygate' row

Ryanair's Twitter post has caused quite a stir after comparing the UK's now level 4 alert to the government's alleged 'Downing Street Party'.

This comes after the Prime Minister announced that the UK is now in Covid Alert Level 4 yesterday (Sunday, December 12), though it seems the new restrictions may have triggered the airline.

At 11 am today (Monday, December 13), the company appears to vent its frustrations by sharing a Downing Street party version of the UK's Covid alert levels to its Twitter 500,000 followers.

The cheeky tweet has already been widely shared, and has amassed 19,000 likes and more than 6,000 retweets.

The published graphic compared the first alert level of 'Covid-19 no longer present in the UK' to a 'small gathering of wine and cheese' while level 2 equates to “tinsel, party hats, PM hosting a pub quiz”.

At level 3, when the virus is in 'general circulation' is the same, according to Ryanair as “Booze, snogging, Gove in charge of refreshments."

Level four alert is compared to “Boris topless, asking Thatcher’s portrait if she comes here often.”

Talk about saving the best for last, the budget brand spared no punches after it compares the “health care services being overwhelmed” with the party in “Full-on rave. Everyone off their tits. Jacob [Rees-Mogg] crying in the corner asking for nanny.”

The chief executive of Ryanair’s main operation, Eddie Wilson, along with several signatories, sent a letter to Boris Johnson.

The letter reads: “As leaders of UK airlines, we are deeply concerned about the haphazard and disproportionate approach by government to travel restrictions following the emergence of the omicron variant.

“Whilst we fully recognise the need to take steps to contain the initial impact of the omicron variant, travel has been singled out with the introduction of disproportionate restrictions.

“Further, pre-departure and upon-arrival testing clearly add very little value to our Covid protection, but unnecessarily disrupt Christmas for families as well as businesses while severely damaging the UK travel industry.“

Dozens of people responded to the post, with one saying: "Disgruntled civil servant finds new role in Ryanair PR team."

Someone else wrote: "OMG this is brutally funny. Well done Ryanair."

But not everyone thought it was humourous, one person wrote: "Wow. Not a fan of the government but agree with others on here...unprofessional."
