Ryanair rolls out Covid-19 travel wallets for passengers ahead of summer holidays

Ryanair has launched a new 'Covid-19 travel wallet' which allows passengers to store their Covid-related documents in the airline's app.

Passengers will be able to upload key documents such as negative PCR test results and coronavirus vaccination certificates, as well as other documents that may be required to enter a destination over the summer.

Currently countries have their own border rules and entry requirements, although these usually involve the likes of proof of a negative test or evidence of being vaccinated against Covid-19.

The digital wallet is currently being rolled out on the airline's app - you can find out more on ryanair.com.

The company said that it's confident the EU's vaccine rollouts could see travel restrictions lifted in time for the summer holidays.

This may include a need for additional documents alongside tests/certificates - which is why extra documents can be uploaded to the new digital wallet.

The news comes as there are hopes that foreign travel could resume for holidaymakers in England from May 17, as part of the roadmap for easing England out of lockdown.

Currently it's illegal to go abroad for a holiday and anyone who travels needs to provide a valid reason for doing so, such as for work or health. The government is due to review restrictions on travel in April.

Still, there are glimmers of hopes for holidaymakers, with a number of countries readying to welcome back Brits for holidays this summer.

For example, Cyprus has already said it will welcome vaccinated Brits from May, while Greece is reopening to UK travellers who have been vaccinated or can show proof of a negative test result.

Meanwhile, Spain could introduce Covid vaccine passports from May with the aim of welcoming back tourists.

We've also got a guide on other countries most likely to open to Brits for summer, depending on the UK's travel restrictions at the time.
