Ryanair launches its first pilot training academy - and you only need highers to apply

Are you looking to spread your wings? Ryanair have launched its first ever pilot training academy - and you only need "A-Levels",the Scottish equivalent of highers, to apply.

The budget airline has teamed up with Aviomar Flight Academy to deliver a mentored programme that will train a new generation of pilots.

The base in Rome will train 400 pilots over the next five years with the first intake set to start their careers with Ryanair from as early as 2022.

The initial course takes 18 months and on successful completion of the final Ryanair assessment, trainees will be offered a place on the Ryanair Boeing 737-800 Type Rating Course, reports Edinburgh Live's sister site the Liverpool Echo

After graduating, pilots will join the Ryanair fleet - which has more than 85 bases across Europe and flies to over 200 destinations in 40 countries.

Those who are successful and go on to become Ryanair pilots earn an average salary of £135,000 per year, according to the company’s website.

As well as the April intake there are further courses starting in November and the following April.

To apply for the training academy, you simply need to have higher qualifications, regardless of the grade.

For more information about applying to the academy, interested applicants should email info@aviomar.org, or visit their website.
