Ryanair flight from Berlin to Edinburgh declares mid-air emergency

A flight from Berlin to Edinburgh declared a mid-air emergency after some tyre debris was found on the runway after take-off.

The Ryanair plane issued a 7700 alert near Newcastle on Friday morning.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: “This flight from Berlin to Edinburgh (17 Sept) was directed by UK Air Traffic Control to initiate a precautionary landing due to tyre debris found on the runway after its departure from Berlin.

"The aircraft landed normally at Edinburgh airport, all tyres were inspected and no damage was detected.”

The Boeing 737 aircraft departed from the German capital at 9.50pm and landed in Edinburgh on schedule just after 11am.
