Ryanair flight bound for Spain diverts to Shannon Airport after medical emergency on board

A Ryanair flight destined for Spain had to return to Shannon Airport on Sunday after an emergency on board.

The plane had departed the Co Clare airport at 8.20am and was scheduled to arrive in Lanzarote in the Canary Islands at 12.20pm.

However, FR1344 flight was less than half an hour into its journey before Ryanair staff were notified that a passenger had become unwell.

It was then decided that the passenger would require further treatment and the plane would need to halt its onward journey.

The flight crew notified Shannon Airport of the medical emergency and that they would need to make a U-turn.

Around an hour and a half after initially departing, the plane landed back in Shannon.

The ill passenger, believed to be an elderly woman, was taken to University Hospital Limerick for further assessment, as the Clare Herald reports.

The flight then departed for Lanzarote again just before 11am.
