Ryanair extends seat sale with flights for just €20 as Government hints travel could return sooner than planned

Ryanair has extended its latest sale, with flights for just €20.

The offer, which is available on tens of thousands of seats, will now be in place until midnight on Thursday.

The conditions are that you book by midnight and travel between July 1 and 31.

There is a 'no change fee' offer in place but it is only for new bookings made after June 10 for travel in July and August and the fare difference will still be applied, the airline says.

It comes after the Government hinted that travel could return quicker than expected, with the 14-day quarantine rule possibly being lifted in early July.

Leo Varadkar on Prime Time (RTE)

Speaking about opening Ireland up again earlier this week, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar said it could be done through the “air bridges” idea where countries that have equally low coronavirus infection rates can mutually agree travel between them.

But he said that we have to be careful in how we do this because of the very real danger of importing the virus again.

Mr Varadkar gave the travel thumbs up in what could have been his last big interview as the country’s leader on RTE’s PrimeTime on Monday night.

It came after a taskforce commissioned by Minister for Tourism, Shane Ross, came back early with a recommendation in their report that we could lift 14-day quarantines from as early as next week.

Mr Varadkar said: “I think we need to be very careful about that, I haven’t seen the report yet, but it’s one of the issues we are going to consider at our Cabinet sub-committee tomorrow.

“We’ve got our caseload down so low now, so low, that there’s a real risk of re-importing it from the countries where the virus is still so prevalent.”

But then Mr Varadkar gave a sunnier outlook: “I think if we’re going to open air travel between Ireland and other countries we need to do it safely and we also need to do it through what we call air bridges, pairing Ireland with countries with a similar level of control of the virus.”
