Ryanair expansion

Ryanair turned this week to Germany for its latest expansion. The Irish low-cost airline is to base two more aircraft at Frankfurt Hahn airport from December and is to add four more routes to the 10 already served. The number of flights to Stansted is to be increased to six a day.

The airline makes light of the critics (in particular German airline Lufthansa) which points out that Frankfurt Hahn is 75 miles west of the city and has no connecting flights. Ryanair says that it has carried two million passengers on the route, many of whom have used the regular bus shuttle.

New fares from Frankfurt Hahn start at €14.40 (£8.50) one-way to Rome (Ciampino). A new low fare of €29 (£17.50) was unveiled from Strasbourg to London - flights begin in December. Strasbourg will become Ryanair's ninth French destination: 1.2 million passengers will be carried from London to France this year alone.
