Ryanair, easyJet and Tui issue urgent Edinburgh Airport updates from before next travel review

International travel rules are not as straightforward as they once were and the pandemic has left airlines to update their policies and routes accordingly.

As the traffic light system has caused uncertainty for some airlines, flights have been scrapped where as other airlines are hopeful to get Scots out for some winter sun.

The UK Government reviews foreign travel every three weeks and the next travel review will be next week on Wednesday with some countries like Spain and Pakistan being heavily looked at.

While Scotland has followed in England's footsteps regarding the traffic light system, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has emphasised that the Scottish government's advice is not to travel abroad for holidays.

Here's a rundown of some airlines and what they have recently done regarding flights.

Ryanair

Ryanair has announced six new routes from Edinburgh Airport.

The budget airline has expanded its fleet in Edinburgh Airport and those looking for a break away or family visits, can now book summer flights from Edinburgh Airport to Knock, Naples and Zadar.

And from winter, jetsetters can take off from the city to Turin, Knock and Tallin.

Speaking in Edinburgh, Ryanair’s Director of Commercial, Jason McGuinnes said: "Scottish families/visitors can now book a well-earned summer getaway safe in the knowledge that if their plans change, they can move their travel dates with a zero-change fee up until the end of December 2021."

TUI

TUI has been forced to cancel flights more than 25 destinations across the world including popular UK holiday spots.

It comes as uncertainty across holidays continues with the green, amber and red list still in force in Scotland.

A Tui spokesperson confirmed that holidays to Lanzarote on flights with TUI Airways are cancelled up to 23 rd September but resume from 30th September.

They said: "We are continually reviewing our holiday programme and cancellations in line with Government updates every three weeks.

"If we need to cancel holidays because of updated Government guidance, or after reviewing our holiday programme, we will contact customers and aim to give at least seven days advance notice."

Jet2

Jet2 has expanded its number of flights over the winter.

Capacity is raised from Belfast International, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Manchester, Newcastle and Stansted.

The additional Winter Sun destinations going on sale for Winter 22/23 from Edinburgh Airport include Malaga, Alicante, Faro (Algarve) and Majorca.

These popular Winter Sun destinations are in addition to the existing hotspots already on sale which include the Canary Islands (Tenerife, Lanzarote, Gran Canaria, and Fuerteventura) as well as Madeira, Turkey (Antalya) and Cyprus (Paphos).

Virgin Atlantic

Virgin Atlantic have announced their expansion to launch a long haul flight from Edinburgh Airport.

From December 5 2021, sun seeking scots can take off from Edinburgh Airport to Barbados from December 5 2021, just in time for a Christmas getaway.

And for those looking ahead to 2022, Flights from Edinburgh Airport will be jetting off to Orlando in April next year.
