Ryanair, EasyJet and TUI cancel flights to and from Morocco as Covid rates soar

UK airlines and holiday companies have been told by officials in Morocco to suspend trips to the country until further notice.

Easyjet, Ryanair and TUI are among some of the businesses that are affected.

Passengers from the UK are not banned from travelling home from the country, but can not travel directly.

Travellers must make their journey via a third country.

The Gov.uk website states: "Travellers affected by flight cancellations should contact their airline or tour operator for advice on alternative routes via third countries (eg France, Spain) where flights are operating as normal."

The ban comes as Covid cases are soaring again in the UK, with over 200 deaths reported on Tuesday.

According to government data, new cases have also been above 40,000 per day for seven days in a row.

These figures are believed to be the highest that they have been since March.

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control have figures showing that Morocco's weekly rate of reported Covid-19 cases stood at 10.4 per 100,000 people last week.

Whereas, in comparison, the UK's weekly rate was at 445.5 cases per 100,000.

Angry customers of the airlines are now taking to Twitter as some are struggling to get home from their holidays.

Jen Tweeted to Ryanair: "My flight was cancelled and your agents have refused to reroute my flight to get home.

"I'm stuck in Morocco, thanks!"

Siama asked TUI: "Currently stranded in Morocco and not heard any clarification from the TUI Rep or yourselves.

"Please can I have an update? #COVID #noreply."

Anisha messaged Easyjet: "I am still waiting for a response to my DM since yesterday in Morocco and need to know how I’m flying back.

"Is my flight cancelled or if another arrangements been made?"

Morocco, the popular holiday destination, has also banned flights to and from Germany and the Netherlands.
