Ryanair chief on why pandemic will change how we fly forever

The pandemic will change how we fly forever, with face masks and temperature checks becoming the norm on planes, Ryanair predicted on Monday.

The budget carrier crowed about a seat sale “like you’ve never seen before” to get people back flying.

Chief Marketing officer Kenny Jacobs predicted lots of five and ten euro fares between “big airports” when international lockdown ends.

He said: “Dublin to Malaga, Dublin to Rome, Dublin to Alicante and Dublin to Faro probably for fares in single digits, for example.

“I think a lot of people will just want to have a holiday after the lockdown and before the winter comes. That’s personally where I think people’s heads will be at.

“We’re all looking out at sunshine at the moment, and that’s helpful, but if we have a pissy May, Irish people will be going: ‘Jesus, get me to Spain or Italy’!”

He told  independent.ie  it could take customers three months to get refunds as the airline struggles to deal with 10 million cancellations a month.

He added of the future of aviation: “Definitely masks and definitely temperature checks. I think they’re the two most common-sense measures.”
