Ryanair boss says 'package holidays are dead' after Thomas Cook collapse

The boss of is “dead” in the wake of Thomas Cook’s collapse.

Michael O’Leary said tour operators were “screwed, it’s over”, because people go online to book holidays without using an agency.

He said yesterday: “The tour operator model is dead.

“Nobody under the age of 40 buys a package holiday and nobody under the age of 40 goes to a travel agency any more.”

The Irishman likened package holiday operators to “whoever it was who was making the last shoes for horses when there were horse drawn carriages”.

But he added: “Does that mean all tour operators, Tui, are going to go bust tomorrow? No.”
