Ryan Tubridy will no longer take part in JFK event involving Micheal Martin

Former Late Late host Ryan Tubridy will not be hosting an event for JFK involving Tanaiste Micheal Martin, following fallout from the hidden payments scandal.

Tubridy was down for an event on the deceased US President at the EPIC Museum in Dublin in association with the Department of Foreign Affairs, however Dearbhail McDonald will now take over as host of the panel.

The event was organised to commemorate the 60th anniversary of JFK's state visit to Ireland.

RTÉ staff across the country protested today over the payments scandal, which saw Ryan Tubridy receive €345,000 via a mysterious account over a five year period, with staff calling for transparency from top executives within the public service broadcaster.

Tubridy wrote a book about Kennedy's four day visit to Ireland, however it is understood he will not be attending the Wednesday afternoon event following the fallout from the payments controversy.

US Ambassador to Ireland Claire Cronin, Governor of Massachusetts State Maura T Healey and Stephen Kennedy Smith, son of former US Ambassador Jean Kennedy Smith, and grand-nephew of President Kennedy, will form the panel, the Irish Independent said.

On the same day as the JFK event, members of the RTÉ Board and Executive will be represented at the Joint Oireachtas Committee, where they will be questioned on the details surrounding the payments made to the presenter.

RTÉ will also appear before the Public Accounts Committee this week.

Chair of the RTE Trade Union Group, Stuart Masterson, said anyone who had involvement in the undisclosed payments had to appear before the Oireachtas committees.
