Ryan Tubridy to return to RTE radio show after recovering from coronavirus

Ryan Tubridy will return to the helm of his RTE shows tomorrow morning following his diagnosis with Covid-19.

Coming out of his two weeks in isolation, the presenter will return to the studio and take over from his ‘caretaker’ host Oliver Callan for the first time in a fortnight.

The Late Late Show presenter announced last Monday he had tested positive for Covid-19, following his suffering with a ‘persistent cough’.

Speaking last week from his home, he said he was grateful to be at the end of the virus and to be fit to return to work at some stage this week.

Tubs, 46, said: “I want to thank everyone for their good wishes over the past number of days.

“I am very grateful to be through this virus, and, to keep safe I will be adhering to best practice and not be returning to work until next week.

“I am acutely aware that other people are going through much more serious pain and I want to send them my warmest wishes at this difficult time.

He went on to praise his Late Late Show caretaker Miriam O’Callaghan, who had been slotting in for him on Friday nights.

He said: “Miriam did a great job last Friday, as I’m sure she will tomorrow night, and I want to thank her and the team for keeping the show on the road.”

Meanwhile, RTE today revealed that last Friday's Late Late Show, presented by Prime Time’s O’Callaghan for the second week in a row, had reached over 600,000 viewers.

The show, which featured interviews with Laura Whitmore and a performance from singer Gavin James, also held almost half of the audience share on the night.

An RTE spokesperson told the Irish Daily Mirror: “Friday night’s Late Late Show, Friday April 3rd, had an audience of 605,000 and a 44% share."

However, this is a drop in over 200,000 from her debut show the previous week, as viewers tuned in nationwide in droves to witness the host become the first woman to present the iconic chat show.

On request by Irish Mirror last week, RTE revealed the show, which garnered major reaction and plaudits online reached an average viewership of 863,000 and held a 61% audience share.
