Ryan Tubridy was left stunned after one of his guests could bare contain his excitement speaking about a recent breakthrough in a Covid-19 vaccine.
Top immunologist Professor Luke O'Neill spoke with Tubs on the Late Late Show this week where the pair spoke all things Covid and more importantly the major positive news which emerged this week.
On Monday drugmaker Pfizer announced that one of their Covid-19 vaccine trials that they are working on is shown to be 90% effective.
And Ryan and his guest Prof O'Neill both clearly shared their excitement at the news.
Speaking on the show O'Neill said: "I'm still beside myself with excitement. From what we know at the moment this looks very very promising.
"A 90% efficacious vaccine. What that means is that means is if I give you the vaccine it you're almost completely protected against the virus.
To which Tubs responded in awe: "Amazing"
However Luke O'Neill was quick to mention the "caveats" around the news.
He added: "We haven't seen the data.
He also lifted the lid on what one insider who he knew said about the vaccine.
"A friend of mine was on the trial. And he told me he felt a bit flu-ey and felt a bit of injection side pain like other vaccines. But it's a strong vaccine Ryan it really boosts the immune system.
However he added that experts were "really hopeful, they were expecting 60 percent - they saw 90 percent so they were absolutely blown away with the level of efficacy."
While the vaccine is yet to approved there is already talks about leaders both home and abroad about rolling out a vaccine by the first half of 2021.
