Ryan Tubridy says he's earned the right to host Late Late Show and isn't leaving soon

Late Late Show host Ryan Tubridy said he’s earned his stripes to host the chat show.

And despite rumours RTE bosses have been lining up a potential new anchor, the 45-year-old won’t be leaving his “jammy job” anytime soon.

When asked whether he ever feels imposter syndrome, Tubridy – who has been at the helm of the show for more than a decade – said: “No, I’m quite entitled to be here.

“I got my membership card and I earned my points. I am flying first class.

“Seriously though, no, I don’t suffer from that.

“I think it could be a generational thing where you were made to feel that but there are times when I look and say, ‘How did I get here?’ Not, ‘Why am I here?’

“I have this really interesting job, that is why I am not going anywhere today or tomorrow – what a jammy gig.

“It’s a great, fun gig, talking to people you have spent your life watching or listening to.

“It’s intriguing meeting them in real life.”

However, the presenter revealed he believes the future host will be a woman and admitted he has a few candidates in mind to take over.

Speaking to the Sunday World Magazine, Tubridy said: “If I was to look at potential [hosts] after me, I would say the front runners would be female.

“Good luck to whoever it is, but the position is not vacant yet.”

Laughing off the idea he has become a “pin-up” in Irish households, he said: “That is bonkers. People are very generous. Maybe there is a market for peculiar nerds, I will take it.”

Despite holding the status of RTE’s highest earner, Tubridy said fatherhood has been the best job of all.

The proud dad, who has two daughters Ella, 20, and 14-year-old Julia, said: “It’s the best [job] of them all.

“They are my world... I adore being with them and near them and in their company because they are smart and they are clever and they are beautiful and funny.”
